Hi, I am Ella!

I began writing this blog to give people a place and a reason to start following a plant based diet.

When I get asked if I’m a vegetarian I always feel so weird answering, if I know the asker is not one themselves. Whenever they aren't, the conversation almost always goes the same way. First they say, "I could never do that." Often times the reasoning they give for this is that they like one specific type of meat way too much. A classic seems to be, "I could never be a vegetarian, I like burgers wayyyy to much." To this response, I used to uncomfortably reply, “yeah fair enough.” I never really understood why people felt this need to defend themselves without being prompted to, after I revealed to them that I was a vegetarian. Was it due to guilt? Was it that they had been pestered by horribly judgmental vegetarians and vegans in the past?

Now when I get one of these responses, I tend to probe back. “Then don’t eat meat except that one item,” I’m always tempted to say. While I haven't figured out exactly the most effective, and least judgmental way to say this, it’s the main gist of how I feel about the matter.

A plant based diet does NOT need to be an all or nothing matter, and if you're looking for a non-judgmental place to start, or some reasons too, you're in the right place.
